TSH_Teaser1THE SCIONLESS HOUSE (The Scion Legacy, #0,5)

Twelve Houses. Twelve vampire lines. We ruled from the shadows, and manipulated the world, and when humans came too close to destruction, we intervened.

Every House has a Scion. A fragile, easily broken human that stood shoulder to shoulder with the house Princes and Princesses.
Except for ours. The Ravens, House Cantelie.
We’ve been without a Scion for almost fifteen years.
But that will change…and her life will be mine to protect.

THE BLOOD SCION (The Scion Legacy, #1)

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them.
I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.
And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.
The Houses. And their Scions.
Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death.
And somehow, I am one of them.

Something sparks in his eyes, and he lifts his wine glass.

Ignores my insult and words completely as he takes a sip of the thick red—dear god, I hope that’s wine. My stomach pitches unpleasantly.

“There are two things for you to realize, Farley. First—I don’t give a fuck why you know your laws. I’m simply glad you do—it will make my job so much easier.”

I swallow hard, and say, “And the second?”

He smiles at me, and this time, his fangs are on full display, long and sharp, and tinted just slightly red from the wine. All the humor has drained from his gaze as he says, “I’m not of House Armstad. And I don’t give a fuck about consent laws.”

Something about the flare of anger is real. Honest in a way I didn’t expect from vampires. It makes me relax, just a little. I can respect honesty, even if he terrifies me.

“Are you here to feed?” I ask curiously. “And if you aren’t House Armstad, why the hell are you here?”

The Houses are complicated. Everyone knows that. And they don’t always get along. Oh some do. Klinge has always stood with the Banchans. The Lion House stands with the Serpent. But Armstad—they seem, from what I’ve learned, content to not chase alliances or power. Maybe because they’re Scion is a Kennedy and the Speaker of the House, which gives them enough power that they don’t need to chase more.

The Prince snaps his fingers and I jerk, startled.

“You’re afraid of me.” He says, and it’s a simple statement. An observation rather than a question. I answer it anyway.

“Captain Obvious, aren’t you.”

He blinks, startled and I bite my lip. Winston always told me that my smartass mouth would be the death of me—or him. And for a moment, while confusion and anger flare in his eyes, I think he might be right. Then he exhales, a slow thing and his gaze moves to the Knight.

That’s the thing that keeps throwing me. The fucking Blood Knight.

I’m a reporter, one who barely manages a byline her brother can read, at an e-paper no one cares about. I don’t get seen by the Blood Princes, and I sure as fuck don’t present enough danger to warrant a Knight.

I want to glance at him. Having my back to an assassin seems like a really stupid thing to do. But I have some manners, and the Prince gets first dibs on my deference.

“What can I do to change that,” he asks, and I blink. I’ve been lost in my thoughts, enough that for a moment, his question doesn’t make sense. Change what?

“How can I ensure that you aren’t afraid of me?” he asks, his voice tipping toward softness.
